SEAG Test Format

The SEAG assessment is completed over two separate test days.
All pupils are required to attend both days, as a different paper is taken on each day. This two-day format is designed to give children enough time to complete the full assessment in a structured and manageable way.
How the Papers Are Structured
Each SEAG paper is divided into three sections:
Practice Section
At the beginning of each paper, there is a practice section containing 10 questions. This section is included to help pupils become familiar with:the style of questions, the layout of the paper.how to record their answers correctly. These practice questions are not marked and do not contribute to the final score. Their purpose is simply to help pupils settle into the assessment with confidence before starting the main sections.
English Main Section
After the practice section, pupils complete the English main section, which contains 28 questions in total. These questions are split into:22 multiple-choice questions and 6 written, open-ended questions. The multiple-choice questions test understanding through a choice of possible answers, while the written questions allow pupils to give fuller responses in their own words.
Maths Main Section
The final part of each paper is the Maths main section, which also contains 28 questions in total. This section is divided into: 22 multiple choice questions and 6 written, open-ended questions. As with the English section, pupils must answer both question types, showing a range of mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills.
Answering the Questions
All answers are recorded on a separate answer sheet rather than written directly onto the question paper. For every multiple-choice question, pupils are given five possible answer options. They must choose the answer they believe is correct and mark it clearly on the answer sheet. For written questions, pupils provide their own responses in the space indicated, following the instructions given.
